Visit to the castle of Schlaraffia Juvavia

In April 2015, a delegation from Round Table 30 was invited to Schlaraffia Juvavia in Schwarzstrasse by one of its “oldies”, Peter Walker. We had a lot of fun at the “Sippung” and spent an entertaining evening. Our Round Table President, Dr. Martin Niklas, also had the opportunity to speak at the Sippung and delivered the following poem:

Sleuths, listen!

Proud as the eagle owl’s mighty plumage
Let the song rise for joy,
and unhindered like the storm’s urge
Let the stream of songs flow.

Then the soul rests on the wings of song,
the highest thing the soul knows,
which joyfully separates itself from the dust of everyday life,
to penetrate to the beautiful, the noble.

Thus described by Tonio the Versatile,
it is the singing that delights you,
a Tabler like me is driven to sing,
many a man has regretted it!

Knight Froh-geh-Mut,
he brought us to your Reych
Mastered the Minneholz so well
And the song at the same time!

We thank you for your hospitality
That we may clan with you
with curiosity and still a little timid
To sip the schlaraffisch arts

Schlaraffia is a worldwide German-speaking association founded in Prague on October 10, 1859 for the cultivation of friendship, art and humor. The word “Schlaraffe” is said to be derived from the Middle High German word “Slur-Affe”, which at the time meant something like “carefree epicure” (compare Schlaraffenland). The motto of the association is “In arte voluptas” (roughly: in art lies pleasure). The term “Schlaraffia” has been trademarked by the “Allschlaraffenrat” (board of the worldwide association “Allschlaraffia”) and can therefore be used with an “®” in all publications of the association
