On April 7, Round Table 30 Salzburg was out and about at Salzburg Central Station as part of this special grounding day. We were accompanied by Georg Aigner “Schurli”.
Georg guided us through his world and shared his moving life story openly and honestly. He told us how he came to Salzburg from the Pinzgau region, how he became homeless there and what challenges and setbacks accompanied him along the way. He also spoke about what he experienced on a daily basis in his life as a homeless person and how this past – including a period in prison – shaped him.
Today, Schurli can look back on an impressive transformation: he has been sober for many years and has now been working at Apropos Straßenzeitung for 19 years. With his openness, humor and authenticity, he has not only touched us, but also made us think.
This grounding day showed us once again how important it is to look, listen and meet people without prejudice. We would like to thank Schurli for his time, his honesty and the valuable insights into his life.
The grounding day is a fixed part of the Round Table 30 Salzburg year. The aim of this day is to consciously bring members “down to earth” – out of everyday life and into the reality of people who are often overlooked. Through personal encounters and direct insights, a better understanding is created of where and how local help is actually needed.
